Installation FAQ

  • 3What do I do when I've clicked the "Download Free Payroll" link?

Open the 12PaySetup.Exe file. Either save it somewhere on your hard drive and double-click on it, or select the Open option directly if your browser offers you that option.

  • How do I buy a premium licence for the software?

Registered users can buy a premium licence by clicking on the Buy Now button on the My 12Pay section of our website.

  • When trying to install 12PaySetup.exe I get a message that a cabinet file is corrupt?

This can happen due to an internet connection errors causing corruption when downloading the 12PaySetup.exe file. Firstly, clear your browser's cache of downloaded files. In Internet Explorer use the following menu options:

Tools | Internet Options | Delete... | Delete Files...

Then try downloading the file and running it again.

  • When I try to print a report I get a message saying that my system doesn't know how to open PDF files. What should I do?

12Pay software generates all of its documents in the form of Adobe Acrobat PDF files. These can be read by Acrobat Reader, available free of charge from Adobe.

  • Can I run 12Pay on a Mac?

Officially we do not support 12Pay if used in an emulated environment as we do not test it in these circumstances but you may find this to be a viable work around should you only have a Mac based computer.

  • I've downloaded the software. I like it. Why should I register?

    Registration is completely free
Registered users get a licence number meaning they can permanently change the name of their payroll company from "Unregistered Company" to their actual name
The small red message at the foot of reports changes to Registered. (Incidentally the copyright message on reports becomes a very dull grey, almost invisible, if you buy a premium licence)
We can only let you know about important statutory enhancements to the software (and indeed bug fixes) if you have registered and entered your email address. We will not use your email address for any other purpose, nor will we give it to any third party. Remember, PAYE and NI rules, bands, and statutory payments change so you will need to download software updates from time to time

  • When I click on the download link in Firefox the "Save File" button is greyed out

Click on the Save File button to activate it, and then click on it again to download the file.

  • My reports won't display, even though I have Adobe Reader on my PC

Find a PDF file on your PC. Right-click on it and select the Properties option.

Click the Change... button and select Adobe Reader on the form which will appear. Then click the OK button.

If you don't see Adobe Reader then you need to install it on the PC first.

If you don't see Adobe Reader on that form then you need to install it on the PC first.

  • Why won't 12Pay let me store my data in a Dropbox folder?

Several users reported problems at period end, in particular where 12Pay would freeze or crash. This is because Dropbox tries to access the data files to synchronise them at period end, and blocks 12Pay from gaining exclusive access to them at this point. This type of issue would be a difficulty with many software packages, not just 12Pay. But many other common office products (in particular products like Word and Excel) work very well with their data stored directly in a Dropbox folder.

If you've been finding that Dropbox data storage is working OK for your 12Pay data then you can simply ignore the warning message that 12Pay gives you.
